Quick facts
1- EMERALDS are one of the most difficult
gemstones to capture properly in digital images. Each emerald
in this page looks much, much better in person than in these
pictures. Also, keep in mind that the images are several times
enlarged which is
comparable at looking at the stones
through magnification.
Many of the inclusions visible in the images are not
noticeable at all with the naked eye.
And the typical "glowing" green color cannot as
well be rendered properly.
2- Colombian emeralds should be viewed in different light sources. In
daylight to acknowledge the "real" clarity. For finest color, incandescent light,
where usually they blossom their color intensity
compared to daylight. In incandescent light, inclusions are also
masked very well. Fluorescent light should be avoided in
viewing emeralds or any colored stone.

Quick facts

DO NOT USE ANY ULTRASONIC CLEANER OR STEAMER when
you set or clean your emerald.
Ask the jeweler that will set your emerald
not to use
the buffing wheel to polish the ring
or pendant, once the stone is set.
Avoid rapid temperature
changes and high heat
sources.
2-
Emerald is a hard gem, which is however brittle. Make sure to remove
your emerald ring before any heavy activities such as washing dishes
by hand, or working with tools. A hard knock can break your emerald.
2- Clean your emerald periodically (when it is less lively
and sparkling) with
cold water and a mild soap.
Perform this operation with the help of a soft toothbrush. Clean it well, rinse
it and dry it.

We recently returned from an emerald buying trip to
Colombia. The Muzo mine is steadily producing for the past three months, a
great amount of dark colored emeralds, but the majority of the crystals is
heavily fractured. We focused on getting clean and healthy crystals with
no external fractures from the mines of Chivor, Coscues, La Pita, Penas
Blancas, Gachala, Totumos and Muzo as well. Since Colombia is tightly
linked to USA and its currency, prices for good clean emeralds in any
shade were very high (in the past two years, prices have DOUBLED and
more). However, having strong connections to people in the mining area,
have allowed us to get very good stones at super excellent prices. Look for new

Caring for emeralds
1- Emerald is a hard gem, which is however
brittle. Make sure to remove your emerald ring before any heavy activities such
as washing dishes by hand, or working with tools. A hard knock can break your
emerald.
2- Clean your emerald periodically (when it
is clearly dirty!) with warm water and dish-detergent. Perform this operation
with the help of a soft toothbrush. Clean it well, rinse it and dry it.
3- DO NOT USE ANY ULTRASONIC CLEANER OR
STEAMER. Avoid rapid temperature changes and high heat.
