1- EMERALDS are one of the most difficult
gemstones to capture properly in digital images. Each emerald
in this page looks much, much better in person than in these
pictures. Also, keep in mind that the images are
30X times
enlarged, which is
comparable at looking at the stones
through magnification.
Many of the inclusions visible in the images are not
noticeable at all with the naked eye.
Most important, the typical "glowing" green color cannot be
captured properly.
2- Colombian emeralds should be viewed in different light sources. In
daylight to acknowledge the "real" clarity. For finest color
and overall feel, emerald should be viewed in incandescent light,
where they blossom their color intensity
(compared to daylight). --Fluorescent light should be avoided in

brilliance is simply outstanding. This gorgeous emerald weights 1.45 ct., medium-rich,
intense, "spring" green color with bluish undertones, masterly executed in a
drop shape with
fancy, Portuguese pavilion, that measures 8.52x6.35x5.08mm,
exceptionally clean, VVS type3 from the famous Muzo mine, Boyaca'
District, Colombia. This gem has to be seen to be believed. One of the
nicest pear shapes we came across during our last trip to Colombia. A
liveliness and sparkle not common for an emerald! Will mount superb

Quick facts
1-
DO NOT USE ANY ULTRASONIC CLEANER OR STEAMER when
you set or clean your emerald.
Ask the jeweler that will set your emerald,
not to use the buffing wheel to polish the ring
or pendant, once the stone is set.
The setting should be high polish before setting the emerald. Once
the stone is set, the jeweler should just polish the prongs or bezel
with the hand piece, without going over the stone in any way.
Avoid rapid temperature
changes and high heat
sources.
2-
Emerald is a hard gem, which is however brittle. Make sure to remove
your emerald ring before any heavy activities such as washing dishes
by hand, or working with tools. A hard knock can break your emerald.
2- Clean your emerald periodically (when it is less lively
and sparkling) with
cold water and a mild soap.
Perform this operation with the help of a soft toothbrush. Clean it well, rinse
it and dry it.

emerald crystals in rock, host matrix. In addition part of the matrix
is detailed carved with a "miner figurine, looking at its emerald
find". Typical Muzo carbonaceous shale, with white and gray calcite,
and pyrite specks. Not really visible, but pyrites specks are all over

1- We have been asked
many times how to view correctly
emeralds. In a gem box, an emerald will
never display its full potential look. The picture shows the right technique to view an
emerald, and see the closest, natural appearance once the stone
will
be set in a ring.
Just hold it in between your finger as shown. Having an
incandescent light source on in the room,
will help also to see the
exact color and
brilliance in indoor environment.
2-
Colombian emeralds will flourish when set in high karat yellow gold (in
Colombia, good goldsmith will refuse to set an emerald in white
gold, for example). They will just beautify their appearance
tenfold. No other colored stone will change so much when set in a
high karat
yellow gold setting..
